Poetry by David Chaloner at Parasol Unit

The Parasol Unit Readings Series continues on Thursday, 19 March at 7 pm with a reading by David Chaloner.

David Chaloner is one of the most distinguished poets at work today. He was born in rural Cheshire in 1944, and Manchester provided the cultural and social context for his early writing, which appeared in the Penguin anthology Children of Albion, among others. In the late sixties he founded One, a magazine for new writing. He has lived in London since the early seventies, and continues to publish prolifically. His Collected Poems (Salt) appeared in 2005, and his most recent book is Beyond These Lines (Equipage, 2007). Peter Riley has praised Chaloner’s work as “a poetry which draws its discourse from the central history of poetry in English by being an ever-new thing, the script of here and now by its very freshness.”

Parasol Unit is located at 14 Wharf Road, London N1 7RW, between Old Street and Angel tube stations. More information at www.parasol-unit.org.

The Parasol Unit Readings Series is organized by Barry Schwabsky. The readings are free to the public. The next reading after David Chaloner’s will be by Andrea Brady, on Thursday, 30 April.
