To accompany the October Gallery exhibition 'William Burroughs: All out of time and into space' and relating to Shezad Dawood's 'New Dream Machine Project' for Parasolstice - Winter Light 2012, ON BEAT will focus on Beat Culture’s history and influence more broadly. It will include talks by contemporaries of William Burroughs and Brion Gysin, creator of the original Dream Machine in 1959, as well as explications of poetics and contemporary work influenced by the era. Peter Jaeger will give a talk/reading entitled "A Philip Whalen Mala" on Whalen, Snyder, Ginsberg and their understanding of Buddhism as it pertains to compositional method. Marcus Slease will read new work inspired by Burroughs' The Soft Machine.

This event is a collaboration between Parasol unit, October Gallery and Intercapillary Space.
