WOMEN POETS AGAINST DSK - 9th March, Cambridge

On Friday night the CAMBRIDGE UNION will play host to celebrity sex abuser and internationally renowned MISOGYNIST: Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

We will march on this event and protest at the Union Society's collusion with Strauss-Kahn, a man who is in no way deserving of t...he uncritical platform he has been given to speak upon that night.

Following the protest you are invited to attend an event that defies DSK's attempt to undermine and silence the voices of women who protest at the gross ABUSE OF POWER by men such as he.

A group of RADICAL FEMINIST POETS including:

will read their work at 9pm in solidarity with all those who have suffered as a result of the actions of this man and all those who have been forced to experience misogynist violence and abuse.

There will be a performed reading of a new work by THE PERFUME RECORDIST (contributed by Lisa Robertson) as well as poems read in tribute to Stacy Doris.

All self-identifying women in the audience will be given the opportunity to read or perform as part of this event, should they wish to take part.

The event will also act as a fundraiser for Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre. Reading venue TBA.

Crossing the Painted - 24th & 25th Sept

at Whitechapel Art Gallery, Art Book Fair

Readings of new work from poets in a collaboration between Painted, Spoken magazine and the Crossing the Line live poetry series. For two events only, six poets read individually, prefaced and ‘afterworded’ by a rules-based group work. Although representing a vast range of poetry practice the poets all come from modernist traditions with art practice selfconsciousness: hear how their work diverges and overlaps, creating a unique live event. Vahni Capildeo, Giles Goodland, Jeff Hilson, Francesca Lisette, Richard Price and Simon Smith.

POSITIVE ACTION present A BENEFIT for U-TURN

The U-Turn project is a Bethnal Green based charity that is both under exposed and under funded. Its main aim is to help and work with “vulnerable and hard to reach women of all ages who have been trapped in the cycle of prostitution, drug addiction, physical abuse and homelessness from a young age”. U-Turn offers them “an opportunity to self-determine their future in their own communities”. Their main mission is to “support women who have suffered cruelty and abuse and encourage them to make sustainable changes in their lives.” U-Turn helps to try and change these forgotten women’s lives around.
